Karibik Inselhopping: BVI
BVI Sailing Catamaran

You want to sail in the British Virgin Islands ? Find here the top five spots where you should definitely stop on your BVI sailing adventure.

The Baths

The Baths, a BVI National Park on the southwestern tip of Virgin Gorda, is an absolute must! And after my reconnaissance tour, I now understand why they are considered one of the most incredible experiences of the BVI. The Baths are large granite rocks that are washed by the sea water, creating large, clear pools of water in a cavernous atmosphere. The light reflected in the water creates a breathtaking effect in these secret rock pools bordered by white sandy paths. The path through the world of rocks leads through steps, ladders and paths with rope handrail and ends at the picturesque sandy beach of Devil's Bay - a real treat.

You can moor at buoys in front of The Baths during the day, but during the winter months you are very exposed to the waves. Therefore, I would recommend mooring in Virgin Gorda and taking a taxi on an island tour to The Baths.

The Baths Virgin Gorda

Anegada is a coral island and thus unlike any other island. The first thing you see from afar are palm trees looking out to sea. We enjoyed wonderful sailing from Virgin Gorda to the island, which is famous for its Anegada Lobster - you should try it! We stayed on Anegada for a few days, renting scooters to explore the incredible beaches and salt ponds of the island. The snorkeling on the northern beaches was spectacular, especially at Loblolly. We made it back in time to Potter's Happy Hour for some "Painkillers" (the local BVI cocktail) and watched the lobsters being prepared for dinner.

Norman Island (The Bight)

I love Norman Island, partly because it's also known as Treasure Island, with stories of pirate treasures, but also because it offers a beautiful and very sheltered anchorage. The caves are just a short dinghy ride away and the snorkeling is breathtaking. It is worth to take a strong waterproof flashlight in the caves, as they are sometimes quite dark. I also had some beautiful snorkeling experiences right from the stern of the yacht and the luck to swim with a turtle. In the evening we barbecued on the catamaran, but there are also a few very nice restaurants on the beach at the top of the bay.

Just before Norman Island, The Indians is also an excellent stop for an excellent snorkeling experience in the BVI. The reefs impress with a lively and colorful underwater world.

Jost Van Dyke

Great Harbor and White Bay on Jost Van Dyke are the perfect places to enjoy the Caribbean island feeling. These include a few rounds of Painkiller in the Soggy Dollar Bar, home of the famous cocktail and one of the best bars in the Caribbean. After a few tries at the ring game, we swam back to our yacht in the crystal clear waters and sailed on. The beach bar scene of White Bay makes it one of the liveliest anchorages in the BVI. We did bar-hopping from Coco Loco, Seddy's One Love to Gertrude's and Ivan's Stress Free.

And of course an evening in Great Harbor is also a visit to Foxy's: Incredible fun, absolute island feeling, great food, dance and of course the Foxy's Fire Water rum. And we were even lucky that Foxy was there himself and making some music !

Cane Garden Bay
